This is a series of 130 works, produced between 1998 and 2004, which present a recurring theme: that of a lion watching over a sleeping couple.
Text by Jean-Paul Perrenx (22/7/2002): “I have just finished the lion n°106. It is in pink and green. I like to name the colors in a simple way, like a child. This lion is pink and green, and I like this light, fresh atmosphere. It looks like an early morning, early morning on the banks of the Saône which passes, which passes very slowly, as usual under my windows. We see the St-Laurent bridge, well we guess it rather, with its sailboat which is far too high compared to the arches, but it doesn't matter. And then the sun, or maybe the moon, too big, too huge, but it's wanted, it's improvised, it's how I painted that's all. What matters to me is the color, the rings of ultramarine blue, the tranquility of the impact, the silence, the sleepers who sleep with their eyes closed, in the serenity of two weary lovers on my canvas.»
